Faith without action, is dead!
Throughout the Bible, we see examples of men and women with great faith. For example, Abraham the “Father of Faith” devoted himself to God and was righteous. When God commanded him to “go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you” Genesis 12:1. he didn’t hesitate. In Abraham’s day, leaving your family was a massive deal, however, he was willing to put into practice his faith and outwork God’s will. He sacrificed and he was blessed accordingly.
On the flip side, the Pharisees in Jesus’ day are a good example of having a faith that is “dead”. They were all talk and no game. They preached on things but their actions didn’t match up. This was because they had faith but had no deeds. James 2:15-17 says: Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
Don’t be like the Pharisees: One moment claiming to be holy, then the next do evil in the Lord’s eyes. We are saved by faith alone, but we are deemed righteous by what we do. How can you put your faith into action this week?
