The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. (Psalm 23: 1)

We welcome Hannah Segerfrojd to Excellere College this week. Hannah is training at Bethlehem Tertiary Institute to be a teacher and is on her final practicum. She will be in Year 9 and 10 Art and Maths, as well as senior Art.

During my Sabbatical I found that all of the schools had a Christian learning component in their senior  College area. This reflected the Christian culture of the school, and gave the students an opportunity to work through some theology and kōrero around relevant issues that they were dealing with, from a  Christian worldview. We would like to extend this opportunity in our Senior College and are exploring how we might do this from next year. This is a foundational aspect of our school and we are looking to strengthen this aspect for our students.

Our group of adventurers returned from their overnight visit to Motuti Marae, North Hokianga yesterday with great stories of hospitality, connection and fun. I attended the Pōwhiri, and stayed for lunch.

The area is steeped in a rich Māori, Christian history with the beginnings of the Catholic church in New

Zealand based there.  Bishop Pompallier is buried at the church nearby. Our students spent time at

Te Kura Taumata o Panguru Area school Thursday morning, learning from staff and students. We are blessed to have this connection with the Far North, and thank them for their support of our Year 10

Te Reo & Kapa Haka programme.  A special thanks to Richard Smith and Ange John for assisting Mrs Smith with organising this event.

Congratulations to our Year 7/8 basketball team, that competed in the recent schools’ competition.      Expertly coached by Mr Osborne, they were a credit to our school and showed great spirit and sportsmanship during the event. Thank you to our new Sports Coordinator, Jake Knobel, and parents for supporting our students on the day. Next week we have a group of students representing us at the Primary school’s cross country. We wish them wings on their feet for the day…
