Head of Department – English 2PMU (Full-Time, Permanent) – 2025

Excellere College, a growing Christian area school in Whangārei, is seeking a passionate and faith-driven Head of Department – English to join our team for 2025. We are looking for a leader who is committed to academic excellence and who will guide our students in both their academic and spiritual journeys.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the English Department, ensuring the curriculum is delivered in alignment with NCEA/UE standards and that it reflects the school’s Christian ethos.
• Provide mentorship and support to the English teaching staff, promoting innovative teaching practices and professional development.
• Develop engaging and inclusive teaching strategies that cater to the diverse needs of learners, fostering a love for language and literature.
• Incorporate biblical principles into the English curriculum, encouraging students to explore literature through a Christian worldview.
• Monitor and assess student progress, supporting each student to achieve their personal best while also growing in their faith.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A degree in English or a related field, along with a recognised teaching qualification.
• Proven experience in teaching English at secondary level, with a record of successful leadership or management within a school setting.
• A deep understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum and NCEA/UE requirements.
• A commitment to Christian education, with the ability to integrate faith into the teaching of English.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a heart for serving students and staff.
• Potential for Literacy Coordinator and additional responsibilities across the school
